5 Weeks Out

*Cliche´* It feels like it was just yesterday that we started this long journey.

Now we are getting down to crunchtime and we need to start kicking butt and taking names! I'm stoked to see what the results are going to be. I started using a new app that tracks my workouts, so I will try to use it durng my runs and cycling to let you all see where I am.

Why didn't ANYONE tell me I looked like THIS!!!!

So we had our first open water swim today. It was definitely a challenge with the wet suit and of course the choppy water but I think we all did a great job. It took a little getting used to breathing in the suit but once you got it, it was smooth sailing.

Thank you to Maria for capturing the difficulties of getting into the wet suit AND my ridiculous AFRO!!! I didn't think it was this bad, seriously. I know it's long but this looks like I just stepped out of a 70's disco. Alas, I will continue to grow it as hopefully more votes come in to determine my race day hair style.

Big shouts to everyone who has donated thus far and to everyone supporting Will and I in our quest to find our inner triathletes and raise money and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Juan's Progress & Before Pictures

Progress: I have noticed an increase in endurance throughout my work out sessions. Swimming is coming along, working my way up toward the 12 laps I need to complete. I have successfully made it across the entire length of the pool about 4 times (w/ breaks). We still need to raise $500 a piece, as well as qualifying for the swim (completing the 12 laps non-stop).

This cause is not only for Leukemia & Lymphoma, you are helping these three young men (us) promote health and a well-rounded lifestyle as we put in work for a good cause. ... We thank you in advance.

Goal: Put on some healthy weight and build up the upper body. Any suggestions, please post.

Action Plan: Increasing food intake (don't know what quite yet) ... Lots of running, swimming (learning to swim), Upper body and torso weight training. I am also going to try whey protein shakes.

Alright here goes nothing ....

I will be posting after pictures toward the end of the training. Right now I have to hit the pool.

It's Getting Close!!

Hey WORLD,

We are about a week and some days away from March 8th. It's starting to get a little daunting to think about the task that lies ahead. You start to wonder if you've really put in enough time in the pool or at the gym. Juan is working on getting a gym membership together so that he can get some more practice in the pool because he is really determined to make the cut. Will is also been putting in work at the gym to the point that people are really starting to notice his transformation.
I think that all three of us just feel better and more energized now that we've been getting into better shape. We still have a long way to go until race day though so plenty of time to improve. The diet we have ourselves on isn't the most friendly for Will and I. We are two fat guys at heart and just want to eat everything and drink heavy beers. But we are determined on staying true, for the most part ;)
Lastly, we have been receiving donations and are up to about $350! This is great to see and we are very happy and grateful. Be on the look out for a couple events that we will be putting together to raise the remainder of our goal of $6000. Possibilities include a guest bartender night at a bar downtown and maybe a fundraising dinner. If you have any other suggestions just shoot them our way.
We would love to hear your comments and words of support! Until next time, peace, love and gatorade!

Welcome to Our Blog: Lambdas Racing to Save Lives

Engin introduced us to the Team in Training program ran through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We are training to participate in an endurance event as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

We are completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

This is our first Triathlon. Not only are we competing for people battling cancer, our personal goal it to get fit and help Juan learn how to swim by March 8th! So, if anything donate to Juan's adult swim class. ... LOL We're just joking, but seriously Juan is a non-swimmer and is getting out of his comfort zone and has committed to learn to swim in order to compete with us. Our race days is June 27th, please feel free to join us on race day for support to the finish line.

Please make a donation to support the Lambdas' participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Donate, it feels good & it's TAX DEDUCTIBLE! Our team goal is $6,000.

75 cents of every dollar goes toward the cause (research, etc...) and 25 cents to non-profit organization The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for maintaining programs like Team in Training.

We hope you will visit our blog and site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see our progress. Thanks for your support!
